We are searching for a Manager, Health & Safety to join our Human Resources Team based in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

About the Opportunity

  • Supervises, directs, coaches and evaluates the work of Health & Safety partners including site leaders, Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committees (JOHSCs), and employees
  • Developing, assessing, monitoring, and adjusting the Health and Safety program and related documents to address trends in incidents, hazards, injuries, and tasks across all job positions.
  • Monitoring emerging compliance requirements, developing strategies to respond to compliance risks, and conducting regular compliance audits and follow-up inspections.
  • Analyzing injury statistical data to develop prevention strategies and delivering safety training and education to support staff competency and compliance with relevant legislation.
  • Co-leading the monthly Corporate Risk Management meetings that includes; setting agendas, completing minutes, and supplementary resources and ensuring participation.
  • Help oversee education and programs related to organizational safety.
  • Accompany managers and employees in identifying risks and providing OHS support to managers for their respective teams.
  • Support orientation training at new build for managers and employees on health and safety
  • Complete safety inspection of new builds, prior to opening, and identify any risks or opportunities to make adjustments

About You

In addition to placing high value on continuous improvement, collaboration and accountability, you bring:

  • A degree from a recognized post-secondary institution and certificate or diploma in Safety management or a related discipline that includes courses in emergency planning, response, and hazard and risk assessment, is required.
  • Applicable Health & Safety designation from a recognized institution (i.e. CRSP®)
  • Minimum of 7 years of Safety experience
  • Minimum of 5 years leading and managing a team
  • Comprehensive understanding of applicable federal, provincial and municipal legislation and regulations pertaining to occupational health & safety and claims management and human rights.
  • A passion for the healthcare sector and/or ensuring seniors have access to quality accommodations, services and care.
