Position Summary

Under the direction of the Senior AVP of Student Health, Counseling, & Wellness Services (SHCWS), the Health Communications Specialist will be responsible for strategic public health communication, campus-wide public health campaigns, and marketing strategies for SHCWS to enhance the value of health and wellness as an essential component of student success and retention. This position will be responsible for promoting a positive department image by collaborating with SHCWS staff and leadership, and other University departments, in the initiation, execution, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of strategic public health communications to proactively communicate the mission, vision, and services to enhance student health and wellness.

FLSA : Exempt (Not eligible for overtime compensation)

Anticipated Hiring Range : $4,985 per month - $5,820 per month

CSU Classification Salary Range : $4,842 per month - $8,759 per month

Work Hours : 8:00am - 5:00pm, Monday - Friday. Hours may vary based on operational need.

Required Qualifications

  • Equivalent to a Bachelors degree or advanced degree in public health practice, health promotion, health education, health related public information, or related field.
  • Understanding of basic public health concepts, including disease prevention, health promotion, epidemiology, and healthcare systems.
  • Experience conducting needs assessments and data-analysis in higher education setting and communication of results to guide programmatic decisions.
  • Experience in developing, planning, and executing public health communication, public affairs, and media programs in both print and digital formats.
  • Experience acting as the primary point of contact for media inquiries, providing accurate and timely information on public health topics.
  • Experience developing educational materials, such as brochures, fact sheets, and infographics.
  • Exceptional oral, written and interpersonal skills with the ability to develop and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships.
  • Experience planning and executing public health campaigns to raise awareness about important health issues.
  • Demonstrated ingenuity in the development of public health communication strategies.
  • Ability to coordinate with internal teams and external partners to ensure consistent messaging across all communication channels.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with healthcare professionals to ensure content accuracy.
  • Experience preparing reports and presentations on SHCWS initiatives.
  • Proficiency in operating a PC, using office software (i.e., Microsoft Office) and various versions of graphic design software.
  • Effective organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple projects and meet goals and deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters degree or advanced degree in public health practice, health promotion, health education, or related field.
  • Experience working in higher education, public health, or health promotion environment.
  • Knowledge of college health trends and regulatory compliance such as AAAHC accreditation.
