Job Description

Purpose of Role

Working within the philosophy of TAMIR, the Children and Youth Coordinator is responsible for ensuring that staff assist children and youth supported to achieve their personal goals and develop skills and a sense of self-worth through an individualized support plan created to meet the children and youth’s unique interests and needs.

Under the general supervision of the Executive Director & BCBA, this position is responsible for carrying out Board policy and is responsible for the day-to-day operations of children and youth programming, and supporting administratively in a manner consistent with Tamir’s vision, mission and values and following the principles of the Quality Enhancement (QE) initiative.

Wage and Hours

$74,000 - $78,000 (Based on Experience)

Sunday - Thursday (Sept-May) with evening hours

Monday - Friday (July-August) to support summer camp programming

Role And Key Responsibilities

Support and Advocacy of Children and Youth

  • Develops a respectful, positive and consistent relationship with children and youth
  • Learns the personal history, strengths and needs of children and youth supported, to assist staff with planning and providing supports
  • Promotes and maintains the mental and physical health and well-being of children and youth supported while in the program
  • Approves and/or monitors the medication administration including PRN’s and other treatments, as required as per Tamir policy
  • Maintains safety and security for Individuals and Staff in all program environments
  • Ensures the completion of the development, implementation and evaluation of children and youth supported programming, goals and Individual Support Plans.
  • Identifies and advocates for change in supports which may impede the realization of children and youth supported goals
  • Ensures program staff provide children and youth with opportunities to develop decision making skills, exercise choices, and assume reasonable risks
  • Maintains communication with families, staff, and others of importance to the children and youth
  • Serves as a resource to staff and families in the interpretation and use of children and youth personal goals/outcome measures
  • Provides leadership and support in developing organizational processes to achieve personal goals/outcomes for each individual
  • Informs the BCBA of any risks to children and youth supported health, safety and/or well-being, as well as any barriers or lack of progress in outcomes for individuals for discussion

Human Resources

  • Participates in Recruitment, orientations, and training of Integration Aids in accordance with Tamir policies and procedures
  • Organizes, and conducts orientation, training and evaluation of volunteers
  • Represents staff team on issues of concern via communication with Tamir Management

Administration and Finance

  • Ensures implementation and enforcement of Tamir policies and procedures, as well as Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services operational guidelines and relevant legislation
  • Operates under the guidelines of Tamir Health and Safety policies and procedures while following safe practices
  • Conducts monthly health and safety inspections of their assigned program sites, in conjunction with the program H&S representative
  • Responds to all Damage/Loss/Hazard reports received regarding their assigned programs and follows established processes to ensure issues are addressed and escalates as required
  • Maintains complete information for each person supported and respects confidentiality
  • Ensures that appropriate documentation of the programs is maintained, according to established Tamir policies and procedures
  • Establishes goals for programs together with children and youth supported and staff, as appropriate, and evaluates annually
  • Provides quarterly and other reports to the Executive Director, and makes recommendations as required
  • Participates on staff and board committees as assigned
  • Attends management and supervisory meetings as assigned
  • Maintains all mandatory training requirements in a timely fashion, as well as a current security and medical checks
  • Performs administrative tasks as assigned by the Executive Director and BCBA

  • Ensures that the Executive Director is informed of all incidents/crisis requiring immediate attention
  • Is punctual and dependable in the completion of assigned duties
  • Attends and actively participate in team meetings, eliciting and representing the needs of staff and the children and youth supported within the program
  • Pursues professional development opportunities, including internal training, as approved

Education And Experience

  • BCBA, BCABA, DSW, SSW, ECE, CYC Diploma or Degree in Social Services, Psychology, Education or related field
  • 3 year of experience working with persons with developmental disabilities.
  • Valid Drivers License with good driving record
  • Valid CPR and First Aid Certificate
  • Knowledge and understanding of a Jewish work environment would be considered an asset
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, proficient in Excel and Word and a general aptitude for technology
  • Experience with a not-for-profit organization

Working Conditions and Physical Demands

  • May be required to work alone and independently
  • Physical agility: daily routine requires reaching, twisting, bending, and Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds if required. Lifting, moving or transferring people who require mobility assistance
  • Muscular strain: work involves a variety of positions, but may at times require sitting for long periods. Requires the ability to operate a keyboard and view computer screens for extended periods of time if necessary
  • Mental and Visual Demands: Working with children and youth with emotional, psychological and physical behavioral challenge
  • Hours of work are: Sunday to Thursday position from September – June with 2 evenings.
  • Hours of work are: 40 hours per week Monday – Friday from July – August.
  • Hours may vary from time to time to accommodate job requirements and to respond to emergency situations
