Ellement Consulting Group Limited Partnership (Ellement) is a privately-owned actuarial consulting firm that has been providing actuarial, administration, software programming, and consulting solutions for pension, benefits, and investment programs for individuals, corporations, unions, associations, and governments for programs based in Canada since 1996.

We currently have a great opportunity for an Actuarial Consultant to join our WINNIPEG or OTTAWA team. 

POSITION SUMMARY

As an Actuarial Consultant , you are proficient in the pension, investment, and/or programming areas. The successful candidate will be responsible for actuarial related activities and must produce high quality results and analysis in a professional manner. The successful candidate will work closely with other actuaries and team members to deliver company goals.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Interpret and apply the provisions of the pension plans and various applicable provincial and federal legislation.
• Respond to inquiries from clients and plan members regarding data, administration, and interpretation of the pension plan text or plan policies/contracts in a professional and timely manner.
• Oversee the analysis of projects, perform actuarial & investment consulting modeling duties, assist in asset mix development, and prepare actuarial valuation and accounting reports.
• Review complex administrative cases (e.g. offside benefits, pension enhancements, etc.).
• Provide consultation and make recommendations regarding pension plan amendments in accordance with client needs and regulatory requirements.
• Collaborate on special projects, as directed.
• Attend client meetings, present results and address client inquiries.
• Supervise the completion of actuarial work and the accuracy of colleagues’ results.
• Organize and allocate tasks to immediate team members.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

• University degree in Actuarial Science, or a related field.
• Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) designation; with a minimum of ten years of pension work experience.
• Understanding of pension regulations and practice, especially for MB, AB, SK and ON, and ability to convert this knowledge into actuarial advice.
• Health & Wellness Trust Fund experience considered an asset.
• Investment analytic skills.
• Proficiency in MS Excel required; knowledge in Visual Basic considered an asset.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to deal with both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Strong leadership skills in coaching and mentoring actuarial students and technicians.
• Ability to work either independently or as part of a team is essential.
